Special Programs
Mountain View Elementary School is proud to be the first Armenian Dual Language program in LAUSD. Our Dual Language Program is a rigorous, research-based program that promotes bilingualism and biliteracy in English and Armenian.
The instructional model for the program provides 50% of the day in English and the remaining 50% in Armenian. All content is taught in both languages. The Armenian Dual Language program is offered in grades TK-5. All enrollment is done through eChoices.
The goals for our bilingual students are:
- High academic achievement across all disciplines
- Language acquisition in English and Armenian
- Appreciation and awareness for cultural diversity, historical perspectives and global issues.
In LAUSD, students may be considered for Gifted/Talented Programs in the following categories:
- Intellectual Ability
- High Achievement
- Specific Academic Ability
- Leadership Ability
- Creative Ability
- Visual Arts Ability
- Performing Arts Ability - Dance, Drama, Voice
Although students can be identified for the Gifted program as early as kindergarten, official identifications occurs in third grade. Students at Mountain View are referred to the GATE committee which consists of a teacher, GATE Coordinator, a parent, and the principal.
All second grade students in LAUSD are administered the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, Eighth Edition (OLSAT-8) in the general education classrooms in March.
At Mountain View Elementary students who are identified as "Gifted" are clustered together. The classroom teacher then differentiates the instructional program by supplementing and building onto the core curriculum. The core curriculum is differentiated through the pacing, acceleration, levels of depth and complexity and novelty of the curriculum.
